Complete Schluter Waterproof Shower Base Installation — Tile-Igos
Here is another shower base we recently completed using a full Schluter waterproofing system. Every step follows proper building standards to ensure long-term protection and perfect drainage.
Step-by-Step Process:
- We reinforced the base with 5/8 plywood, glued with PL and securely screwed across the entire perimeter.
- The surface was primed and prepared with Schluter All-Set thinset for proper bonding.
- We mixed a 1.4 Mapei dry-pack mortar and shaped a precise slope toward the drain to guarantee correct water flow.
- After curing, the dry-pack was primed again to improve adhesion for the waterproofing system.
- We installed the entire Schluter Kerdi waterproofing system: membrane on the base, wall overlap, corners, and full tape sealing around all joints.
- After waterproofing was completed, we applied thinset and installed hexagon mosaic tile, keeping clean lines and correct slope around the drain.
- We performed a pre-grout around the drain area, which adds extra moisture protection — an important detail many installers skip.
- Once completed, the shower base was fully covered and protected before wall tile installation.
This process ensures a strong, waterproof shower pan that will perform for years without issues.
