🛠️ Cat-Scratched Handrail Restoration — A Job No One Wanted to Take
At first glance, this project might seem simple — but the reality was far from it. The homeowners reached out to us with an unusual issue: their cat had deeply scratched all of the wooden stair handrails, leaving marks that went right into the wood.
📌 What stood out the most?
No one else wanted to take on the job.
Small but labor-intensive restoration projects like this are often turned down by other contractors. But we’re not afraid of challenges — for us, it all depends on the details and the budget the client is comfortable with.
What we did:
- Carefully removed all handrails and brackets for off-site work
- Sanded every piece down to clean, bare wood, removing even the deepest claw marks
- Visited multiple stores — including Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore — but found the perfect tone only at Home Depot, in their selection of oil-based stains
- Completed the process with a clear oil-based topcoat to protect the finish from wear, dirt, and future damage
🎯 The result? The railings look like new — even color, smooth texture, and no visible scratches. The client was thrilled, and their staircase once again became a clean, finished part of their home.
